Facilitator

Girls Inc. PNW

Portland, Oregon

My duties at Girls Inc. varied throughout my time with the organization. Part of my job consisted of managing data entry of student information from 30+ Elementary Schools across the Portland metro area into TraxSolutions web-based software. Along side this, I Facilitated groups of 10-15 student’s educating pupils on various topics ranging from economic literacy to media literacy. This also required me to revise curriculums for student use, ensuring that the material remained relevant and up to date.

Typically on the weekends, I was a part of a team that coordinated events sought to empower girls in various fields such as STEM and design on a monthly basis. As the summer of 2020 rolled around, I co-facilitated a Work Readiness workshop for rising 12th grade girls which took place in a virtual classroom.

Nike

Portland, Oregon

Working at a multinational cooperation such a Nike, which desires to "bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world". I pushed myself to build solid customer relationships as I attended to consumers on the sales floor, placing an emphasis on consumer experiences. In an effort to ensure that each person walked out of the store with products best suitable for their needs, I made a conscious effort to gain a deeper understanding of each consumers needs. Thus using my understanding, and educating each consumer on the companies products and the technology/uniqueness that each product has to offer.

My role at West Elm varied between the technical side, as well as the design side. As a part of my job, I managed customer transactions via the front register or through the in house online software. Forming personal connections with each customer as I helped them obtain furniture/decorative pieces for their homes, offices, etc. On the other hand, I leveraged multiple resources such as in house design apps and my own personal knowledge to provide customers with stylist advice helping them pick out various pieces best suited for their spaces. Having to attend to various age groups, I can certainly say that my time at West Elm helped build my confidence and strengthen my commutation skills.

Education

2020 - Present

Portland State University

Major; BS Economics

Featured-portland-state.jpg

My journey to Portland State University was truly one of finding myself and trusting the process. Having fears of how I was going to pay my tuition fees, I spent my entire Winter break writing essays, applying for scholarships. In the end my hard work and determination paid off when I was awarded the Diversity Scholarship. I am excited to complete my last year and half at PSU, and I remain eager to see what the future holds for me.

2017 - 2020

Portland Community College

Straight out of high school as an 18 year-old, I moved from Nigeria to Portland, Oregon in order to further my education. I began my college years at Portland Community College, hoping to save cost while I completed my General Education courses. Finding myself in a classroom and often times being one of the youngest students in the room, my time at PCC taught me to truly focus on my own race in life. Going at my own pace, and not rushing to get to a certain stage because society might make it seem like that is where I should be. I learned to be persistent and truly learned the act of being patient.
